Day 1 -  Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

Many passengers use Civitavecchia as a stepping stone to the ancient wonders of Rome, which are a mere hour or so away by train or road. But with its pretty piazzas, strollable seafront promenade, and bustling open-air markets, the historic fishing port is a destination unto itself. Highlights include the impressive 16th-century Forte Michelangelo, built to defend the harbor from pirate raids; the mineral-rich Ficoncella Thermal Baths, beloved by locals and visitors alike; and the beautiful Baroque architecture of Cattedrale di San Francesco and Santa Maria dell'Orazione. Don't leave without sampling the fresh, local seafood, preferably washed down with a glass of crisp Frascati.

Day 2  -   Livorno (Tuscany), Italy

Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo made their marks of genius here. This cradle of the Renaissance owes its UNESCO status to the overwhelming influence the city and its museums, churches, architecture and artworks have had on Europe and, ultimately, the world. Vestiges of this enlightened period are everywhere today – at the Uffizi gallery, the Palazzos Pitta and Vecchio and throughout the city streets.

Day 3 -  Portofino, Italy

Portofino, a picturesque Italian fishing village nestled along the Italian Riviera, epitomizes elegance and charm. Renowned for its exclusivity and allure, it has long been a haven for discerning travelers seeking a refined escape. The vibrant harbor, adorned with pastel-hued houses, exudes a timeless allure, while luxury yachts add a touch of opulence to the scene. For the well-traveled connoisseur, Portofino offers an exquisite fusion of gourmet cuisine, haute couture boutiques, and breathtaking coastal hikes. Whether basking in the Mediterranean sun on the beaches of nearby Santa Margherita Ligure, savoring delectable Italian delicacies, or immersing in the rich maritime history, Portofino promises an enchanting and unforgettable sojourn for those with a taste for the finer things in life.

Day 4 - Ile Rousse, Corsica, France

Named for its red-hued rocks that glow crimson at sunset, L'Ile Rousse is a lively beach town on Corsica's pretty northwest coast. Its three white-sand beaches lapped by sparkling turquoise waters look straight out of the Caribbean, but the soul of this town is firmly European, from the aperitif-sipping groups frequenting the alfresco cafes in the main square, to the olive oil, charcuterie, and cheese piled high at the daily food market. While L'Ile Rousse is eminently walkable, it's fun to take “Le Petite Train”, which winds its leisurely way around the town's main sights and out to the lighthouse. And if you have time, book a wine-tasting trip out to the many vineyards and cellar doors that dot the surrounding hills.

Day 5 -  Monte-Carlo,  Monaco

An ancient principality steeped in rich and colorful history, Monaco was bought from the Genoese in 1309 by the Grimaldis, who still rule as the world's oldest monarchy - presided over today by Prince Albert.

Day 6-  Monte-Carlo, Monaco

Day 7-  Sete, France

With a saltwater lagoon behind it, the grand sweep of the Mediterranean Sea out front, the 600-foot Mont St-Clair at its center and a network of canals running in between, Sete boasts a truly unique setting. Also unique is its ordinariness. Unlike many coastal Mediterranean locales, this port town is busily engaged with everyday work and life, giving visitors a refreshing glimpse of the daily routine of the French outside big cities like Paris and the wine and castle towns of the Loire Valley. While nicely grounded in its work ethic, there is plenty of charm in Sete. The canals are atmospheric, lined with grand houses and looking a bit like Venice here on the Mediterranean. Eight miles of beach entice a stroll and the rowdy tradition of joutes nautiques, or water jousting, brings a playful sense of competition and due laughter every August, when boat crews with long poles attempt to knock each other into the water.

Day 8-  Day at Sea

Day 9 - Porto Mahon, Spain

Whether you're captivated by maritime history, intrigued by cultural heritage, or simply seeking a scenic escape, Porto Mahon has something to offer. Its blend of coastal beauty, historical richness, and Mediterranean charm makes it a delightful and worthwhile destination for those exploring the Balearic Islands. The city's charm lies in its historical significance, evident in its well-preserved architecture that reflects a mix of Spanish, British, and Mediterranean influences. The 18th-century Fort Marlborough and the impressive Santa Maria Church are just a couple of the many architectural gems to explore, so make sure you pack some comfortable shoes and get exploring on foot. The town's pretty waterfront promenade invites leisurely strolls, and the bustling harbor showcases everything from traditional fishing boats to luxury yachts, while the city's relaxed ambiance extends to its local markets, quaint cafes, and tapas bars, where visitors can savor authentic Spanish cuisine.

Day 10 - Barcelona, Spain
