Along with the Camino de Santiago and the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, the Via Francigena, or Camino to Rome, is one of the most important historic pilgrimage routes in the world.
This trip spans the final section of the Via Francigena, a 100km journey through the striking countryside of Lazio, culminating in the Vatican City. The charming medieval city of Viterbo, your starting point, is rivalled for beauty by the quiet historic towns you will meet along the way such as Sutri, Capranica and Campagnano di Roma.
The trail crosses shaded forests, rolling olive groves and charming backroads until you reach Monte Mario on the outskirts of Rome, where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Eternal City. In The Vatican City, you will receive the pilgrim͛ certificate for the Via Francigena.
