The English Camino follows the traditional route taken by pilgrims from Britain, Ireland and northern Europe. During medieval times, these pilgrims travelled by sea to the northern Galician coast before making their way to Santiago de Compostela on foot.
Your journey starts in the town of Ferrol, one of two traditional starting points of the English Camino, the other being La Coruña.
Trace the medieval pilgrim’s journey through the hilly landscape of the coast and the charming wooded countryside of northern Galicia.
Day 1. Arrival in Ferrol
Ferrol is an old port city, famous for its shipbuilding and naval history.
Take some time to explore what was once the largest city in Galicia.
Overnight: Ferrol
Day 2. Ferrol – Neda (15 km)
Leave the historic docks of Ferrol and continue along a flat and pleasant coastal path, perfect preparation for the days to come.
Overnight: Neda
Day 3. Neda – Pontedeume (16 km)
Another short stage that is slightly more difficult than the previous day. Walk through a hilly landscape, enjoying wonderful views of the Ferrol and Ares estuaries until you get to the pretty town of Pontedeume.

Day 4. Pontedeume – Betanzos (21 km)
Continue along rural trails and over bridges dating back to the Middle Ages. Halfway through your walk, you will come to the delightful coastal town of Miño, then travel onwards to Betanzos, which boasts one of the best preserved medieval quarters in all of Galicia.
Overnight: Betanzos
Day 5. Betanzos - Hospital de Bruma (28 km)
Today you turn away from the sea and delve deep into the Galician countryside along quiet country lanes and farmlands with grazing livestock.
Stop for a breather at the villages of Presedo and San Paio de Vilacova before finishing the day in Hospital de Bruma, named after the town’s medieval hospital.
Overnight: Hospital de Bruma
Day 6. Hospital de Bruma – Sigüeiro (25 km)
This stage is mostly flat, taking you along small backroads and dirt trails through scrublands and native forests with stone crosses marking the way.
The day finishes with a long straight track through a forest before at last reaching Sigüeiro.
Overnight: Sigüeiro
Day 7. Sigüeiro - Santiago de Compostela (17 km)
Another short stage that takes you through a rural and wooded environment before arriving on the northern outskirts of the city of Santiago de Compostela. Wind your way through the narrow medieval streets until you reach Plaza de Obradoiro and the city’s stunning cathedral, where you can attend Mass or visit the crypt containing the relics of Saint James and two of his disciples.
