Europe's highest resort, with superb Three Valleys skiing and great après.
- Massive ski area with glacier skiing and snowsure runs to suit all abilities.
- Party all you like in some of the best après bars in France.
- Ski-in, ski-out resort that’s really convenient to get around.
With the resort at 2,300m and skiing way up to 3,230m, Val Thorens is hard to beat when it comes to great snow conditions. It’s also part of the huge Three Valleys ski area, totalling 600km of slopes that are linked by fast lifts and are highly rated for all kinds of skier – you’ll be in piste paradise whether it’s your first time skiing or your fiftieth.
The compact town’s purpose-built, and loads of the accommodation is ski-in, ski-out, so it couldn’t be easier to get on the slopes. And it’s backed by some pretty impressive scenery too – surrounded on three sides by dramatic mountains. You can end each day with live music and dancing in slopeside hotspots like La Folie Douce and 360 Bar, or a laid-back drink in town favourites like The Frog pub. If you prefer spas over bars, there options aplenty for pampering too. Lots of hotel wellness areas are open to the public, but for some 5-star R&R you can’t beat the Spa Pure Altitude in the Hotel Altapura.
Want to switch up your ski time? Whizz down Europe’s highest zipline at over 100km/h or race through the twists and turns of the Cosmojet, Europe’s longest toboggan run. Or to immerse yourself in the mountains while keeping it low-key, check out the new Caron 3200 building. Perched at the 3,200m summit of the Cime Caron, it features a restaurant, wine lounge bar and a panoramic rooftop terrace – looking out at over 1,000 peaks, it's a proper spectacle.
