About Passo Tonale
Small, easy-going town with quiet beginner slopes and traditional hotels. Great for families, from Crystal Childcare to kids' ski areas. Head for the heights on sunny, snowsure slopes up to 3,016m. Tuck into authentic pizza and pasta – no one does them better than the Italians. Straddling a mountain pass that links the Trentino and Lombardy regions, Passo Tonale is an excellent pick for families and beginners going to Italy. The 100km ski area has fast lifts and quiet runs that are ideal if you’re just starting out. There’s even a gentle blue on the Presena glacier, so you can get your first taste of glacier skiing. And with most of the area sitting above 1,800m high, the snow conditions are usually great all winter.
The small town is mostly laid out along one main road, so it’s easy to find your way around the shops, restaurants, and traditional hotels – many of which have family-friendly facilities like pools, kids’ clubs, and games rooms. Evenings are pretty laid-back, but there are a few livelier bars dotted around the bottom of the lifts for those who want to sip a drink and listen to some live music.
You can also tick off other winter activities like tubing, snowshoe walking, dog sledding, and ice skating. And once a week, families can get together for Fun Kids Evenings, with music, face painting, hot chocolate and a kids’ torchlit descent.
Apres ski
Passo Tonale has a strong selection of après spots to choose from once you're done with a day on the slopes. Much of the fun is to be had on a deck, in the sunshine, with a Spritz or beer, as things wind down more as the evening progresses. Even if you stay out the whole night, this town should be easier on your wallet than other similar places in the Alps.
Activities
- Cross-country skiing
- Floodlit skiing
- Ice climbing
- Snowmobiling / skidooing

4* Hotel Grand Paradiso
Passo Tonale, ItalyThis family-friendly pick pairs fab facilities with a prime piste-side spot. Each morning, simply climb the steps behind the hotel, click in and set off. Still learning? You’re just 10 minutes’ walk from the ski school meeting point.
Nothing says ski-holiday bliss like soaking in a sauna or hot tub, so pay a little extra to enjoy some after-ski R&R in the spa. There’s also padel ball (think tennis meets squash) and a games room chock-full of arcade-style machines, so active types are covered too. And if you're holidaying with kids, make the most of our Crystal Childcare clubs to keep the holiday feels flowing for your little ones.
There's a mix of rooms at the Paradiso, some with a modern look, decked out in creams and whites, and others that have a more traditional feel. And you can take your pick from loads of different types too – from simple singles and twins all the way up to suites with multiple bedrooms and balconies.
As for meals, there are big buffets served up every morning and evening, and as an extra perk, you’ll get free drinks included with dinner as well. Or you can shake things up by eating à la carte in the Pasta & Pizza restaurant if you fancy.
