Gran Canaria
Long stretches of sandy beaches, lively resorts, traditional villages, and plenty of opportunities to hike the natural landscape. Holidays to Gran Canaria can be as relaxing or as energetic as you want them to be. Fly direct from Dublin to this volcanic Spanish island and take in the sweeping Atlantic views.
South coast beaches
Beach lovers flock to the south coast of Gran Canaria, home to some of the islands best stretches of sand. There’s lots of choice when it comes to beaches. You'll find everything from secluded coves backed by sleepy villages, to energetic hotspots overlooked by huge hotel complexes. The beaches are often the central hub of activity on a Gran Canaria night out, with lots of bars, restaurants, and cafés.
Exclusive resorts
Right down on the southern tip of the island is where you’ll find Gran Canaria’s most exclusive and luxurious resorts. Places like Meloneras have an air of exclusivity, with swanky boulevards, five-star hotels, high-end restaurants, and designer stores. The colonial revival architecture here is different from what you’ll find in other parts of the island. The skyline's low-rise and scattered with greenery.
Inland exploration
You’ll probably choose to stay in one of the beach resorts in the south, or in the shopping haven of Las Palmas in the north. But don’t overlook the beauty of Gran Canaria’s interior. Right in the centre of the island stands Pico de las Nieves, an almost 2000-metre volcanic peak. You can also hike to the Roque Nublo landmark, visit the Pilancones natural park, and walk among butterflies at Palmitos Park.
The Canary Islands boast year round sun, making it the perfect winter sun destination. Check out the weather in Gran Canaria for monthly temperatures.
