Lanzarote Holidays
Holidays to Lanzarote take you to the Island of Eternal Spring. This volcanic island is known for its pleasant weather all year round, and you can get there easily with direct flights from Dublin, Cork, and Shannon. Lanzarote's landscape is like no other, with otherworldly plains and soft sandy beaches.
Beach life
Lanzarote’s south coast is the place to be if you’re looking for classic Canarian beachfronts. The island boasts no less than 213 kilometres of coastline in total. Ten kilometres of this are rugged sands, and over 15 are perfectly manicured beaches. Playa de los Pocillos, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca are top destinations, and with a subtropical desert climate, it’s almost always beach weather.
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
The landscape and natural history of Lanzarote is very different from that of the other Canary Islands. UNESCO branded it an official Biosphere Reserve back in 1993. The environment here is almost alien in its appearance, with red, rocky craters overlooking brilliant blue lagoons. The unusual landscape forms the perfect habitat for a number of rare and endemic species, like the Canarian Egyptian vulture.
Getting around
It’s just a one-hour drive from Playa Blanca down in the south-west to the Jameos del Agua cave system in the north-east. That’s practically the entire length of the island. With a car, it really doesn’t matter where you choose to stay, whether it’s Matagorda, Playa de los Pocillos, or any other resort. It’s quick to get around and see the sights, like the peaks of the Timanfaya National Park and the capital of Arrecife.
