Fuerteventura, Canaries Holidays
Fuerteventura's greatest attractions are its expansive white sandy beaches, often acknowledged as the finest in the Canaries, and its negligible rainfall. Fuerteventura is particularly known for its wide, white sandy beaches and with over 150 km of them, there is a beach for every taste.
Fuerteventura is known as the “Island of Eternal Spring” because of its glorious weather. It never gets colder than 13 degrees, the maximum temperature is 29 degrees, and the sun shines over 300 days a year.
Fuerteventura has the longest beaches in the archipelago of the Canary Islands and is well known for being a very popular surfing and windsurfing destination. Canoeing, scuba diving, sailing, beach volleyball and hiking are also hugely popular here.
It's an unspoiled island, beyond the resorts lies an island blissfully undisturbed by tourism, where space is bountiful, and a timeless peace and tranquillity prevail.
The quality of food is wonderful here; dishes combine Spanish with African and Latin American influences. Not surprisingly, fish is available in abundance, too. Spanish wines are plentiful value.
Inland, Fuerteventura plays home to Europe's largest desert as well as mountain ranges through Betancuria, Pajara and El Cardon. This dramatic setting is ideal for road cyclists and walkers looking to take advantage of the great outdoors. There is lots of family fun too, an island safari visiting Corralejo National Dune Park is popular or a drive to the village of El Cotillo and its spectacular lighthouse and clear water lagoons. Kids love trips to the mouth of volcanic craters, where you can feed the local chipmunks.
Fuerteventura was a key location for the latest Star Wars film, Solo. A Star Wars Story, and it's possible to see the locations up close. Since 2009, the island has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In 2015, it was also recognised as a Starlight Reserve thanks to its dark skies filled with sparkling jewels rather than artificial light.
