Fuerteventura Holidays
Holidays to Fuerteventura take you to the second largest of Spain's Canary Islands. Fly direct from Ireland to Fuerteventura's east coast and take in the preserved natural beauty of this biosphere reserve.
A natural wonderland
Fuerteventura was given UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in 2009, taking it from a beach resort to one of the most ecologically important destinations in the world. The island is home to the largest and most biodiverse desert in Europe. It's home to more than 600 plant species which thrive in dry conditions.
A watersports hotspot
There are more than 150 beaches dotted along the Fuerteventura coast, and you’ll find watersports facilities at almost all of them. The island is located in the path of the trade winds from the African coast. This means that eastern Fuerteventura is airy and breezy, with ideal conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Maxorata
In the 15th century, the early settlers divided Fuerteventura into two parts. The northern area was known as Maxorata. This is where you’ll find the huge purpose-built resorts of Costa Caleta, Nuevo Horizonte, and Corralejo. Here, sprawling hotels give way to sandy beaches lined with bars and shops.
The Jandia Peninsula
South of Maxorata is the Jandia Peninsula which juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. This part of Fuerteventura is dominated by the Jandia Natural Park nature reserve, where you can see ibis and leatherback turtles. The resorts of Jandia and Costa Calma are minimally developed and very laidback.
3* Apartamentos Maxorata Beach
In Corralejo, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain
This cheerful block of apartments does stress-free holidays with ease. It’s a great base from which to explore northern Fuerteventura.
You’ll be self-catered, which means there’re no set meal times to dictate your plans. Spend lazy mornings lounging in the pool or take off by car for some island sightseeing.
The location of the complex is spot on for embracing Canary Island culture. Come evening, you can explore the main strip where a harbour, old town and Plaza del Musica – music square – make for a romantic stroll.
