About Bansko
In Bulgaria’s biggest ski area, with high-quality hotels and a traditional Old Town.
There’s a lot to love about Bansko, from the up-to-date lifts to the views of the Pirin National Park. For first-timers, there’s a highly rated ski school and quiet nursery slopes up the mountain where you can practise. Little learners can find their ski legs in the dedicated kids’ zone with its slaloms, obstacles and arches. And if you’re already more experienced, carve down reds near the peak or tackle the Tomba black run – it’s regularly used for world cup races.
It’s a case of new meets old in Bansko itself. The cobbled lanes and terracotta roofs in the UNESCO-protected centre are surrounded by streets lined with bars, clubs and restaurants. It’s a lively place, and with food and drink prices that are much lower than elsewhere in Europe, a good night out is easy on the wallet. It’s more good news for your bank balance when it comes to the accommodation, with great-value, modern stays that wouldn’t look out of place in an exclusive ski resort.
For a true taste of Bulgarian culture, enjoy a folk evening in a mehana – a kind of traditional Balkan pub. And for something to do with younger ones, check out the bowling alley or crack codes and puzzles in an escape room.
Bansko’s one of our best resorts for families. Lots of its accommodation is close to the lifts and has family facilities, the ski school is easy to get to and there’s plenty to do off the slopes.
Kids
At the top of the Bansko gondola, there’s an adventure course with arches and fun obstacles as well as a children-only ski area with a magic carpet.
Head down to the 1200m2 outdoor ice rink or have a family game at the bowling alley. And for something a little different, challenge the children to complete one of the two themed escape rooms at the Hotel Lucky.

Après-ski
Bansko's new town is thriving with bars and nightclubs and the drinks are very, very cheap. Once the sun goes down the bars are rammed and the drinks are flowing.
Bansko has an enormous range of places to eat. There are over 40 mehanas (traditional eating houses) alone, and there's little difference between them so take your pick - they're generally cosy and serve hearty Bulgarian food and fine local wines. As Bansko's popularity has grown, so has it's international offerings, and there are now around 60 other restaurants and snack bars in town.
