Bansko ski holidays
In Bulgaria’s biggest ski area, with high-quality hotels and lively après.
- Spend way less on food and drink than in other European resorts.
- National park views and lots of pretty, tree-lined slopes to explore.
- Varied après, from nightclubs and live music to traditional Old Town mehanas.
There’s a lot to love about Bansko, from the views of the Pirin National Park to the cheap drinks and buzzing post-piste atmosphere. For first-timers, there’s a highly rated ski school and quiet nursery slopes up the mountain where you can practise. Little learners can find their ski legs in the dedicated kids’ zone with its slaloms, obstacles and arches. And if you’re already more experienced, carve down reds near the peak or tackle the Tomba black run – it’s regularly used for world cup races.
It’s a case of new meets old in Bansko itself. The cobbled lanes and terracotta roofs in the UNESCO-protected centre are surrounded by streets lined with bars, clubs and restaurants. It’s a lively place, and with food and drink prices that are much lower than elsewhere in Europe, a good night out is easy on the wallet. It’s more good news for your bank balance when it comes to the accommodation, with great-value, modern stays that wouldn’t look out of place in an exclusive ski resort.
For a true taste of Bulgarian culture, enjoy a folk evening in a mehana – a kind of traditional Balkan pub. And for something to do with younger ones, check out the bowling alley or crack codes and puzzles in an escape room.
