Bad Gastein ski holidays

Bad Gastein’s in the heart of the 198km Gasteinertal ski area, which is linked by excellent public transport, so getting around is easy. Head to the nursery area at Angertal to find your ski legs. Or if you’re more experienced, long runs like the 10.5km red from the top of the Hohe Scharte are ideal for some high-speed cruising. And on powder days, check out Kreuzkogel for the best snow.

Bad Gastein’s one of our best resorts for families. Lots of its accommodations are close to the lifts and have family facilities, the ski school is easy to get to and there’s plenty to do off the slopes.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Resort childcare

Schneesportschule Bad Gastein mini-club

Fun comes first at this ski club for kids aged 3 to 4 years. Sessions include parachute games and activities in the snow, as well as a carousel to help little ones find their ski legs.

What's included

Tuition with qualified instructors.

Fun and games with Gasti the mascot.

Lunch included for an extra charge.

Kids' ski area

The Angertal and Bucheben areas have been designed with kids in mind. Covered magic carpets take little skiers to the top of a gentle slope, which is dotted with snow sculptures and friendly characters

Stubnerkogel Fun Centre

This colourful kids’ centre is in the same building as the Stubnerkogel lift station. It’s free to use, so you can stop for a quick break whenever you fancy. Inside, kids can dive into the ball pool, scale the climbing wall or enjoy a game of table football.

Kid-friendly activities

Head to the ice rink for a spot of skating or try your hand at Ice Stock – Austria’s answer to curling. Animal lovers can team up with a pack of huskies and go dog sledding. Or for some alternative winter thrills, try ziplining across the gorge that runs through the centre of Bad Gastein.

Best time to ski in Bad GasteinBad Gastein

The Austrian ski season goes from December to April, and you can usually rely on good snow – though if you go in March or April, pick a high-altitude resort or one with a glacier to get the best conditions. In lower resorts, you can enjoy longer days and soft snow in those months. January’s the sweet spot for fresh snow and all the valley runs should be open. At Christmas, the towns come alive with festive atmosphere and most have traditional markets where you can sip glühwein and shop for gifts.

Passports and Visas

British citizens don’t need a visa to visit Austria, but you’ll need to check your passport’s issue and expiry dates. The issue date must be less than 10 years before the date you arrive, and you must have at least 3 months left on your passport after the day you travel home. If you’re a UK passport holder, use our handy passport checker to make sure yours is valid for your trip. Health and Safety

You’ll need to have a valid insurance policy, which includes winter sports cover when you book your ski holiday with us. It’s quick and easy to get a quote from our preferred insurance partner. If you have insurance with an alternative provider, you should check that your policy provides the cover you need for a winter sports trip.
