Andorra Ski!
Andorra, a small principality nestled high in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, has become a premier skiing destination in Europe. Known for its excellent value and impressive infrastructure, Andorra offers two major ski areas: Grandvalira , the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees with over 200 kilometers of interconnected slopes, and Vallnord , which combines the Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís sectors, ideal for families and freeride enthusiasts. These resorts cater to all levels, from beginners to seasoned skiers and snowboarders, with a wide range of blue, red, and black runs, as well as snow parks and off-piste opportunities.
Andorra benefits from a long ski season, typically running from December to April, thanks to its high altitude and advanced snow-making systems. Beyond the slopes, visitors can enjoy a vibrant après-ski scene, with cozy mountain restaurants, bars, and thermal spas like Caldea , one of Europe’s largest wellness centers. The country’s duty-free status also makes it a hotspot for shopping, offering everything from ski gear to luxury goods at reduced prices. With its blend of affordability, modern facilities, and stunning natural beauty, Andorra is a hidden gem for winter sports lovers seeking a unique alpine experience.
3* Yomo Patagonia
- Family trips are sorted with free lift passes for kids and a top-rated ski school.
- Brilliant nursery area and lots of gentle runs – great for finding your ski legs.
- Traditional village filled with stone-clad buildings and friendly après bars.
Arinsal’s the main resort in the Pal Arinsal ski area. The high-altitude nursery slopes mean beginners should get good snow conditions and mountain views from day one. And with lots of gentle greens and blues nearby, as well as one of the best English-speaking ski schools in Europe, you’ll be confidently cruising in no time. For more of a challenge, you can catch the cable car over to the Pal side of the mountain for longer runs and steeper reds.
Set in a wooded valley, the village is filled with stone buildings built either side of a small river. Things get livelier here from the mid-afternoon as people come down off the mountain. Head to the bustling main street to join the après action and dance along to live music in one of the great-value bars. As for where to stay, choose a simple, self-catering apartments or splash out on a 5-star hotel with all the bells and whistles.
And for a few hours of family-friendly fun, you can’t beat the bowling alley and games arcade in the Hotel Princesa Parc, which is open to non-guests for a small charge.
