Customer Testimonials

"I have just returned from our Camino Walk from Sarria to Santiago arranged by Michael Grainger and Barters Travel. I travelled with my friends Marian O'Mahony and Bernadette O'Driscoll and just have to thank Michael for his detailed instructions and helpful hints along the way.

We thoroughly enjoyed the walk in spite of the heavy rain on the last few days.

The hotels along the way were better than expected especially the Hesperia Peregrino in Santiago which was a welcome  luxury at the end.

It was also great to have our luggage waiting without fail at each destination. Its not often I can say that a holiday goes without a hitch but  it did in this case and well done to Michael and Barters for the well organised trip"

"Juan, Thank you for a wonderful trip along the Camino.  I have been very busy and am now beginning to get caught up on things since my return from Spain.

I wanted to extend my great thanks to you and Michael for your hospitality, guidance, and the wonderful work you all did to make us feel welcome and comfortable each day.  I would like to return some day and either bike or hike the whole Camino … I’ll let you know if I get a chance to do that.

If you’d ever like to come to the US for a visit to Kentucky, I’d love to host you.  Please extend that same offer to Michael.  You’d be welcome to stay with me any time!

May God bless you as you continue to help others along their Way :) "

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

The Camino de Santiago (UNESCO World Heritage) or Way of St James is one of the most famous pilgrimage walks in the world. Its history is steeped in a tradition of over a thousand years when pilgrims came to visit the final resting place of the apostle who, legend has it, was buried initially in the year 44AD after his martyrdoom by Herod, and whose final resting place was rediscovered early in the 9th century.

It is an exciting and unforgettable adventure and a different way to discover Northern Spain and Galicia.

We offer eight guided and self guided options for you to embark upon! Our options cover three different routes, the French route, the Portuguese route and the Via de la Plata. You can browse through our offers in both walking holidays and cycling holidays below and choose the one that's of the most interest to you!

 ITALY

VIA FRANCIGENA

The Via Francigena is the trail to Rome starting in Canterbury and crossing Europe where you can discover a stunning heritage trail dating back to the Middle Ages.

This epic trail crosses regions of wonderful sceneries such as the Alps and Tuscany, likewise cultural and historic landmarks such as the Champagne region and II World War battlefields of Northern France. The Via Francigena is full of history and wonderful sceneries to explore on your way to the incredible eternal city for a circuit of 2000 km.

PORTUGAL

FISHERMAN'S TRAIL

Fishermen’s Trail always runs along the Portuguese coastline on the south west of Portugal just below Lisbon starting in the region of Alentejo. It follows the trails used by locals to get to the beaches and fishing spots.

Fishermen’s Trail is along the cliffs and sandy beaches and dunes to small hills which can only be travelled by foot. You can just appreciate the permanent contact with the ocean breezes, the harsh coastal scenery and the wild natural landscape for a circuit of 120 km.
