St. Petersburg

 

St. Petersburg is Russia’s second largest city, and certainly one of Europe's most spectacular destinations.

Visit St. Isaac’s Cathedral dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia. The Cathedral was ordered by Tsar Alexander and is the fourth consecutive church standing at this place. The Cathedral took 40 years to complete (1818-1858) and features bronze doors covered in reliefs - patterned after the celebrated doors of the Battistero di San Giovanni in Florence. Underneath the peak of the dome is a sculpted white dove representing the Holy Spirit. Other features include columns, pilasters, floor and statue of Montferrand, these features are made of multi-coloured granites and marbles from Russia. Climb the spiral staircase to receive a magnificent city view. The cathedral is a an architectural masterpiece and is a spot you definitely wouldn't want to miss. 

 

 

Follow the tour to The Fortress of St. Peter and Paul: this site is an important part of the State Museum of Saint Petersburg's History. In 1720 the fort was a base for the city garrison and a prison for high-ranking or political prisoners. Travel along the Nevsky Prospekt for views of the great Cathedral of Kazan and the iconic, onion-domed Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood.
