Krakow, a captivating city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and modernity. Nestled in the southern part of Poland, Krakow boasts a rich heritage dating back over a thousand years, evident in its stunning medieval architecture and well-preserved landmarks. As you explore its cobblestone streets, you'll be enchanted by the charming atmosphere and find yourself immersed in a tapestry of traditions, folklore, and mouthwatering culinary delights. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply seeking a memorable escape, Krakow promises you an unforgettable holiday experience.
Day 1
We depart Dublin on our direct flight to Krakow. On arrival you will be met by our tour leader and then you will be transferred by coach to our hotel in Krakow City. We are based for 3 nights in the 3-star Alexander Hotel. This hotel is in the Old Town. It is close to everything: the Market Square, Wawel, Kazimierz, and the best restaurants are literally at your fingertips. After we have checked into our rooms we will then meet in the lobby and go on a short walking tour of Krakow.
Day 2
After breakfast we will be picked up and brought to Auschwitz-Birkenau for our private guided tour. Auschwitz-Birkenau is a poignant journey through one of history's darkest chapters. Guided by knowledgeable narrators, visitors explore Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, witnessing the haunting remnants of the Holocaust. The tour delves into the unimaginable suffering endured by millions as you are led past the prisoner barracks, gas chambers, and crematoria. The vastness of Birkenau's "Gate of Death" leaves a lasting impact as it should while commemorating the lives tragically lost. This sombre experience imparts the importance of remembrance, compassion, and tolerance, encouraging visitors to honour the victims' memory and strive for a world where such atrocities never recur. It serves as a powerful reminder to embrace humanity and unity.
After the tour you have the afternoon free to explore Krakow at your own pace and enjoy the city. Perhaps you’ll revisit some highlights from Day 1 or ‘get lost’ and see where the cobblestones lead you.
Day 3
Today you have the time and freedom to continue your adventure in Krakow. Make sure to get to Schindler’s Factory, Wawel Castle and Cathedral and Market square. There’s a lot to see and not as much time as you need to see it all! If you’re looking to venture a little further afield than the city, then we can offer you an optional excursion to the Wieliczka Salt Mines. The mines are located not far from the city and offer a captivating underground adventure. This UNESCO World Heritage site attracts visitors with its awe-inspiring salt-carved chambers, tunnels, and sculptures. Descending into the depths, you'll encounter breathtaking salt lakes, intricately chiselled salt statues, and impressive underground chapels adorned with salt crystals. The mines' history dates back over 700 years, and the tour provides fascinating insights into the salt mining industry and the miners' lives. A highlight is the magnificent Chapel of St. Kinga, an underground marvel entirely sculpted from salt. The Wieliczka Salt Mines promise an unforgettable journey into the subterranean wonders of the past. Your tour will take approximately 3 hours after which you will be transferred back to the hotel.
Day 4
After breakfast we check out from the hotel. We will then embark on a walking tour of Kazimierz the Jewish Quarter of the city and visit the Synagogue. Kazimierz is a place where history, culture, and contemporary life come together beautifully making it a fascinating and diverse district to explore while in Krakow. Then we have the afternoon free to do some last-minute shopping / relax on the square etc. In the evening we depart from our hotel for the airport for our flight home.
