Explore Tuscany's lush landscapes, and UNESCO-listed historic town of San Gimignano, see the Monterrigioni's hilltop village, savour the Chianti wines, and relish local dishes amid the vibrant history of Siena!


Day 1. Arrival in San Miniato

Arrive in the breathtaking town of San Miniato where you will stay the night. Explore the cobbled streets of the medieval quarter, visit the Romanesque cathedral or hike up to the beautiful fortress tower. Don’t forget to try the famous local white truffles.  Sleep well; your Via Francigena journey through Tuscany begins tomorrow.

Day 2. San Miniato - Gambassi Terme (24 km)

Follow the trail through a landscape of woodland, olive groves and vineyards. On the way, you will pass some lovely sights such as the churches in Coiano and Chianni. The day ends with a short climb to Gambassi Terme, a hilltop town best known for its hot springs.

Day 3. Gambassi Terme - San Gimignano (14 km)

A shorter walk through undulating meadows and world-famous Chianti vineyards. Soon you will reach San Gimignano, a fascinating UNESCO-listed walled town with lots of historic attractions and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

Overnight: San Gimignano

 

Day 4. San Gimignano - Colle di Val d'Elsa (13 km)

Leave San Gimignano and continue walking through olive groves and cypress-lined tracks up to the village of Montecchio. 

The distance today is not too long and you will find yourself in the town of Colle di Val d’Elsa before you know it. Explore the beautiful upper medieval town or enjoy a glass of Chianti in the central piazza before dinner.

Day 5. Colle di Val d'Elsa - Monteriggioni (14 km)

Another short and pleasant day, starting with a descent to Castel Petraia, followed by a forested ascent to Montagnole. Your walking day will finish at Monteriggioni, a fantastic hilltop town enclosed within medieval walls. Enjoy dinner and rest up for the evening.

Day 6. Monteriggioni - Siena (21 km)

From Monteriggioni, the trail winds its way towards the village of Funghaia, home to a beautiful church whose interior is decorated with frescoes. Continue through farms, brush and vineyards until you reach stunning Siena, where your journey comes to an end.

Day 7. Free day in Siena

Siena is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular places to visit in all of Italy. It is famous around the world for its art, architecture, museums, and the ‘Palio,’ a traditional horse race held each year in Piazza del Campo, regarded as one of Europe’s greatest medieval squares.

Take a relaxed stroll through the historic streets, visit beautiful Siena Cathedral or sample some tasty Tuscan cuisine.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the end of your Camino adventure. See you next time!
