Hitting The Austrian Slopes: A First-Timer's Guide to Skiing

We are delighted to share his recent experience of skiing for the first time in Austria!

First time skiing? Here’s what you need to know

Getting there

Biberwier is reachable through a quick 2 hour flight to Munich and another 2 hour bus transfer. As you get closer to the resort you begin to see the most picturesque snow capped mountains. It’s around now you truly realise your ski holiday has begun.

Accommodation

Biberwier offers a selection of hotels to stay in from slope side luxury to more budget friendly options further away from the slopes. I would recommend staying as close as possible to your resort as it reduces the amount of time spent walking to and from the slopes in uncomfortable ski gear!

The Skiing Itself

The best way to ensure your ski adventure gets off to the best possible start is ensuring you have boots that are comfortable to move in. Ski gear that doesn’t fit correctly may cause blisters. The first step to becoming a pro is mastering the basics. Don’t worry if this takes a while, it will become natural soon enough. Sometimes the best way to learn is to fall over – again and again.  You will shortly feel the thrill of skiing.

Food 

Austria has some truly delicious foods to enjoy such as Wiener schnitzel or apple strudel. Even though prices on the slopes restaurants might give you a heart attack, there are other restaurants in local towns and villages that are much more affordable.

Must Visit Attractions

• Zugspitze, located on the German-Austrian border has been named as the highest peak in Germany at almost 10,000 feet and is only reachable through a journey on a cable car. Zugspitze offers scenic views that can’t be rivalled anywhere else.
• If you fancy a break from skiing the historic city of Innsbruck is only an hour away and has pretty streets, medieval architecture and plenty of cafes and restaurants.
